A Walk for Peace: Welcoming Buddhist Monks to Our Lady of the Rosary
On Monday, January 26, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church had the honor of welcoming a group of Buddhist monks who are undertaking an extraordinary 2,300-mile “Walk for Peace.” Their journey, rooted in prayer, mindfulness, and non-violence, is a powerful witness to peace, perseverance, and compassion across communities and traditions.
The monks were warmly welcomed by Reverend Edward Tembo, whose presence and hospitality set the tone for an evening marked by respect, kindness, and unity.
Despite unusually bitter cold temperatures and snowfall, the monks continued their journey with quiet determination. Their arrival in Louisburg during such challenging winter weather made their visit all the more humbling and meaningful.
Our parish was grateful for the opportunity to host the monks overnight, offering a place of rest, warmth, and hospitality. This moment was made possible through the generosity and dedication of many parish volunteers, who stepped forward with welcoming smiles, helping hands, and genuine enthusiasm despite the cold conditions.
We are especially thankful for the support of our local community, including EMT and medical personnel, and local law enforcement, who ensured the safety and well-being of the monks and those assisting throughout the evening. Their presence and care were deeply appreciated.
A shared evening meal was prepared and served, not only for the monks, but for all volunteers who gave their time and energy. Gathering together around a warm meal became a beautiful expression of unity, kindness, and mutual respect.
Even in the face of harsh weather, the spirit of peace was unmistakable. The monks continued their journey with calm resolve, and our volunteers met the cold with warmth of heart. It was a powerful reminder that faith, service, and compassion transcend differences, and that moments like these strengthen the bonds of both parish and community.
We are grateful for this encounter and for all who made it possible. May the message of peace carried by these monks continue to inspire hearts along their long road ahead.

A Shared Moment of Prayer and Welcome
