Reader (Lector) Ministry

The Reader Ministry—also known as the Lector Ministry—is a vital part of our liturgical celebrations. Readers proclaim the Word of God during Mass and other liturgies, helping the assembly to hear and reflect on Scripture as an essential part of worship.

This ministry is more than simply reading aloud—it is proclaiming God’s Word with clarity, reverence, and conviction so that it comes alive for those listening. A well-prepared reader helps open hearts to God’s message and deepens the faith of the parish community.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Proclaiming the First and Second Readings at Mass
  • Leading the Prayers of the Faithful when assigned
  • Participating in special liturgies such as Holy Week, Christmas, weddings, and funerals
  • Preparing prayerfully in advance by studying and practicing the assigned readings

Qualities of a Reader:

  • A love and respect for Sacred Scripture
  • A clear speaking voice and ability to proclaim with confidence
  • A commitment to preparation and punctuality
  • A desire to serve God and the parish community

Training and Support

All new readers receive training in both the spiritual and practical aspects of the ministry. Resources are provided to help with pronunciation, pacing, and understanding the meaning of the text being proclaimed.

If you feel called to share your voice in proclaiming God’s Word, please contact the parish office to learn how to join this important ministry.
